Hello there everyone, So how yer keepin'? I left Driff nine years ago now, to find work.I got as far as Hull and settled by the North sea. It's much colder living here than back in my hometown but the locals are friendly and the pubs are always warm and welcoming. I had some great nights out in Driff between 1985 and 1997.Some good laughs and some bad hangovers! I feel a Kinks song coming on or for younger readers a Kirsty MacColl number-'Thankyou for the days, those endless days, those sacred days you gave me,I'm thinking of the days,I won't forget a single day [believe me].Days I remember all my life, days when you can't see wrong from right' I'm still following the famous Leeds United but as the years have passed by the boddy can't withstand the drink as much so I lead a sober existence these days. It's good, life is good. So to everybody in Driff take it easy and good health to you all.
- Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at (GMT Daylight Time)Bonzo [David Boddy] UK I was stationed at Alamein Barracks - 32 (JL) Squadron, Royal Corps of Transport back in 1978 (April to Novemeber)while I did driver training at the ASMT in Beverly.
That was a long time ago when I was very young. Used to buzz about the countryside in a red Honda CJ250T, until I got caught out of camp after the curfew time, when I had to get it off camp (back to my home town hereford) for a while. Used to date a local lass for a while, but the years have flown by and my memory chips storing that era aren't as reliable as they used to be, so I apologise for forgetting her name!
Doubt if anyone remembers me, but if you do drop me a line at daveytasker@hotmail.com.
Nostalgia just isn't what it used to be!

- Saturday, February 11, 2006 at (GMT Standard Time)Jo H Melbourne, australia From what I've been reading Driffield has changed quite a bit. Left Driffield in 1987 to live in Toronto Canada. Been home a few times, though not recently. Been reading this website.......... what's with all the drug talk? I thankfully never experienced that when I lived there! Loved my years in Driffield, especially the Full Measure and Rugby Club! Hello to anybody that remembers me..... think of you all with fond memories. Anybody visiting Canada? Please drop me a line and lets hook up. Would love a Friday or Saturday night out in Driffield one day in the future but this website has scarred me!! Hoping Driffield hasnt changed all that much?? Bye............................Lynne Cheetham Lynne Butler (CHEETHAM) Barrie, CANADA I MOVED TO CALIFORNIA IN 1960 AND HAVE BEEN BACK TO DRIFFIELD SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THEN, THE LATEST TRIP BEING ABOUT 4 YRS AGO. This is the Driffield I recall: Sniffle windy between the pipe scope diluted on song with single malt and sherbert lovelies. Snoogling gregariously, Uncle Lush drinks fire and breathes smoke, jabbering tales of slattern wenches and muddy studs. Greetings and slide away the polished floors. Fight - nay, joyously spread copious cheer until darkness closes the clanging gates of iron. Yet glass appears clear but is hard and formed of violent heat. Now dream, and let these thoughts waft between the silences behind your eyes. - Monday, October 31, 2005 at (GMT Standard Time)
The sentence in the description of Wetwang is not grammatically correct:
Named after the black swans on the pond is a Black Swan Public Houses and also The Victoria Inn and Restaurant.
Nor does it sound very interesting, but that is probably because it isn't...

What a wonderful find this website is!! I lived in Driffield, Wansford Road beween 1946 and 1968 when I went off to get married and live in Sheffield. My parents were Enid and Brian Burks..... anyone remember me or them?
I had a great childhood and teenage years in Driff... well looking back they were great years altho at the time we all moaned about there being nothing for teenagers to do!
Dances on Saturdays at the Sec school and then the "Bohemia" club!!! There was a local band called "The Syndicate 5"..... but the only member of the band I can remember by name is Tal Taylor! All the girls were nuts about him!!!
I can be contacted at rosemary1411@btinternet.com

This site brings back memories of my visit in 1993. My family came from the area ( Lockington ) and migrated to Australia in 1860.
Family members still live in the area. If any one reading this message knows John Dossor ( I think he is still active with the Cricket Club ) tell him that Max, Eric and families say "G'day".
We still hope to make another visit some day.

From memory I think that we concluded that the log in which I found the point at Gransmoor was too badly deformed to be sure of specific ident. Different authorities gave tentative idents of Sorbus and Betula. There was evidence of local birch scrub from the rest of the MF and pollen assemblage, while there was little evidence of mountain ash.
Best wishes,
Charles

I was evacuated to Nafferton in 1939. I attended the church school at the top of the village and since having a stroke I can't think what it was called. I would appreciate it if there was someone who could remember the name and e-mail me to let me know. I have fond memories of Nafferton and Mr&Mrs; Panky Headmaster & eacher of the School. I also remember Miss Coward a former teacher from Sunderland who also taught in the church school. I was billited to Mr & Mrs Thorton who owned the fish shop Westgate ( I think ) .
It would be great if there was anyone who remembers being in Nafferton. I am 73 and really don't expect to find many people from that time but it would be nice to catch up on old times.

Well now! I signed in before and never realised what had gone before in the guest book............
I am very happy to hear that Drif' is on the marijuana map. I can't tell you of the great times I had down there on old Mary Jane Superweed. We were a motley crew of lads all very different but the dope got us together. Driffield back then suffered from a serious case of the small town mentality. It may still I haven't seen any of the real Driffield for years. To know Driffield you must frequent all her boozers regularly for about a year! That is her main artery, the lifeblood of the town courses through those hallowed drinking halls.
Who is top dog? Who is sleeping with who? What the council are planning? Are the coppers bent? Who does the dealing of cigs and stuff? Well if you must ask then you need to listen to the chat in the bars. I am delighted that the old town has a website. I look upon Driffield with love and nostalgia and have some very fond memories of the place but there I learned some very important lessons about life and people. People are basically shallow and selfish and life is not in any way what you make it but is infact a series of huge disappointments that you must live with either in or out of Driffield.
If I didn't know better I would say the place had some kind of unique cosmic signature that is reaching out to all those who have passed through her streets. To this day I love Driffield and will always for one reason... it was home for many many years. Went to Cross hill Infants, Brid Road Juniors. Manorfield seniors... Had me first spliff at 36 Beverly road (LONDESBOROUGH TERRACE) worked at Cindico and then at college. loved Drif' hated Drif' left Drif' still love Drif'

Keep up the good work. I must say the Yorkshire Wolds must be one of the most hidden jewels of England and one of my favourite areas to visit. Millington Pastures, Thixendale and Warter to mention just a few. I have built a memorial web site in memory of my late dear father whose daughter now lives in Driffield. You can find it at WWW.ENRICO.CO.UK Enrico Giacani Selby / York / Hull, England - Monday, July 05, 2004 at 00:59:51 (BST) A great site. Keep up the good work.
