Never thought to look up Driffield when surfing the net until a friend recommended it to me. Went to Driff school 71 - 76 and left Driffield in 1989 for a fresh start. Still visit now and then and the town grows more each time. The only name I've recognize is Steve Petch's are you still at the Driff Times?

Driffield Times and Post here. We were considering running an article on what you all think of Driffield in a future edition.

Did you live in Driffield and left because it wasn't your cup of tea or do you live here and plan to stay? Whatever the case, we would like to hear your thoughts... in language we can print.
Full names would be preferred.

My message seems to have caused a bit of a stir and debate, the latter I believe is a good thing.

Thank you to everyone who e-mailed me (which ever side of the argument you sit). It is nice to know that I have at least helped one or two people to realise they are not alone. From the responses I got the problem is obviously as prevalent now as it has ever been which saddens me greatly. Hang in there guys you can see from the addresses of all the postings on here that there is a way out.

I am sorry to those I offended, the message was not meant for that purpose but to help those who have contacted me and to make bullying in the town an issue for everyone not just the victims..

To the people who indicate that the bullying may have been down to personality flaws within me, perhaps it was. Does any child however, no matter how irritating you may find them deserve to be used to put matches out on? I think not, that my good people that is called child abuse wether it be a mother doing it to her baby or a 14 year old abusing his class mates.

I went to Washington DC on Sunday. They have loads of memorials and statues and some of the best sculpture I have ever seen. But they don't have a millenium clock. Strange that.

To the two idiots hayles and kerry, you sound to me like two very childish and immature teenagers. When you grow up and see the real world you will probably decide that Driffield isn't really the bad place that you think it is now. I went to Driffield school and got a decent education, you get out what you put in. Watch T.V, read a national newspaper; see the warzones and poverty stricken places. Imagine what it is like to be there. You see Driffield may be a small town where everyone knows everyone, rumours may spread like wildfire, and there may be "nowt to do" but honestly there are worse places you could be. I know.

P.S I do not agree with any bullying of any kind, and to anyone who is at Driffield school who is being bullied (i know it goes on) keep your head up it is a big world out there and Turton was right you will get one up on them. BYE

Honestly, some of the pants I have just read. I've only just stopped laughing. Driffield, a great place? I don't think so and we can't wait to get out of this town to earn some decent money and have somewhere decent to spend it.
A big shout out to the bloke who was telling it the way it is about the scummy school and the scummy teachers (Except Mr. Dyson). And about the scummy people who feel proud to be from Driffield. Why? High unemployment and too many new people moving here. This is a warning for those who want to move here. DON'T!!!!!
And as for the scummy millenium clock, wot a sodding waste of time(literally) and money.
Cheers then bye!

What lovely memories I have of Driffield, its people and wonderful school.

I moved to Driffield from Bridlington at the age of 14 attending its local comp. As a place to spend your formative years I can only describe it as horrific. The school is a haven for outrageous levels of bullying to anybody fortunate enough not to have been born a member of the inbred family of 9000 that is this picturesque Yorkshire town.

To any child at the school who is wondering what you have done to deserve the beatings, name calling, spitting etc the answer is nothing. The scum that frequent the school both pupils and sadly teachers who allow this to happen are the ones with the problem not you.

I know the despair that you are feeling and I'm sorry to say that until you leave the school (and preferably the town) it will not get any better. Telling the teachers as you know simply results in you being cited as a trouble maker by them and receiving more kickings from your tormentors.

I would hazard a guess that if you are relating to this you are probably from a so called 'poor' background probably living in local authority accommodation with parents that are petrol pump attendants not teachers and solicitors. You spend your life been called Gypo by the 'in crowd' whose parents finance their popularity through being able to buy the 'right' clothes etc.. Your school work is suffering as is your behavior as you try to be what they want you to be...

My advice to you is serve your time in Driffield and then get out into the real world. The people that torment you now know nothing, they claim to be wealthy and yet live in the cheapest housing in the UK. The houses that you look at in envy don't even cost the price of a small flat in much of England. From experience I can tell you that in the future the people who you want to impress so much now will mean nothing to you. I have been back and visited the odd time and its hilarious. Your tormentors are working the pig farms or food processing factories for minimum wage (if they are lucky). The arrogance has all gone as they realise they are nothing!

I was labelled as a failure by the people of this town and its 'school'. I was labelled as cheeky and mouthy by the school as I desperately tried to fit in. But you see what I didn't realise was that I never would fit in. No matter how hard I tried my dad worked in a petrol station and my mum groomed dogs, we had an old car and lived in a council house. I was therefore guilty of the worst crime in Driffield that was to be poor...7 Years after leaving however the boot is on the other foot. I am now the Customer service manager for a property developer in Kensington London. I earn substantially more than the teachers who wrote me off and parents of the 'in crowd' who tormented me. The value of my property would buy me a small street in Driffield and thus the respect of the vile bigots in the town.

The nice thing now is that I don't need that respect. Driffield and its people wallow in their own cacooned little world while the real world goes on around it unaware of its feeble existence.

A website to be proud of in a town and a school that has nothing to be proud of. To the victims of Driffield (and there are many) I say to you stick with it you can achieve your dreams despite the town you live in.

I hope this is allowed to be read although I doubt it as it doesn't fit in with the websites cosy 'image' of the town. Like everything else this letter will be written off as the bitter ramblings of one individual (I assure you their are many more)

P.Turton AKA Gypo.

Respect to Brian Hutchings Driffield School's one and only decent man!

Enjoy your web site. Amazed at how many ex Driffieldites from many countries write in. I left Driffield in 1961 and was the former Shirley Wilson. I don't suppose there are many who remember me. I still have two sisters and a brother living in Driff.

I married a Yank who was stationed at Driff. There were a few others who married Yanks and Iwas wondering if they are still in the States.

We have lived in other parts of the country but are now retired and living near the Gulf of Mexico in Miss. It is HOT down here in Dixie, got up to 98F today.

Hi Nikki,Jamie,Nats,Maj,Gail,Steve,Foxy and anyone else. Hope u r all o.k It is hot here between 75f and 100f. I will be back end of july or beginning of August. Any news about the Mario's did they catch the retard who did it? Was the idea for him to burn his face so that he couldn't be identified. Come on Driff Cops pull your fingers out (hi to Pc Marshall by the way)!!!!! As for the clock in the market place i think it should be take down and donated to the townhall so that it can be used as a prop in any plays it may show. The millennium clock is an insult to Driffield it would be more suitable in Legoland. The bottom line is the kitchen clock was better!!!!!!!!!!

Hi to everyone in Driffield. How's America, Hayley? The beauty of the millenium clock is only surpassed by all the bumps and roundabouts littering the main street. what the hell is happening to driffield? then they want £10,000 donated for CCTV cameras on the same day that councillors' expences are published! (also, another crappy Barratt estate) let's have some young councillors with a genuine interest in the town and preservation of jobs - and a genuine love of driffield. see ya', luv Nikki
