Hello there,
Well ya coulda blown me sox fair orf me feet when I entered Driffield in my search engine looking for the genealogy archives in Yorkshire to find a little family history and find a whole flamin village in my namesake. By the way my father was born in a place called Wakefield but I guess that's another story *grin* Would love to hear from anyone that has any knowledge of "The Driffield" family, even if it includes a little bit of the ole lowdown. Take Care All. I will check in again sometime in the near future for a bit of an update. Hooroo DRIFFA

An Interesting Site.

Re.your notes on Wilfhome. I used to ride my bike there from Hull to fish in the drain going on sixty years ago. Revisiting it in the sixties I was intrigued by the stone causeway on each side of the river.

I did a bit of research on the place and these turn out to be the remains of a ferry which closed about 1920. I don't think anyone knows when it started but I have seen a stone axe dating back to about 1,000 b.c. which was dredged from the river at this point together with other antiquities which used to be on show in a Hull museum (The Transport Museum, in High Street I think).

The farmhouse there used to be a public house called the three jolly sailors - there used to be a lot of shipping up the River Hull to Driffield and this would have been a much-used stopping point. I believe that Wilfhome is a very ancient and interesting place and I would like to read any written history of that area if there is any.

Thank you again for an interesting site which brought back memories as I stretch out in the sun in.

It's normally the old man that hogs the stage, but just for clarification, it's young Frank Gladstone, not so young these days. Went to Driff School 60-65, worked at Driff Times, played footie with Driff Town, EI, Nafferton, Garton and drank with anybody that would drink, usually Micky Walton. Like I said anyone that knows me, get in touch.

Brilliant website. Been left Driff now for about 30 years but keep coming back. You cant get rid of me that easy. All my family are still there. Nice to see Ian Leslie's name on there, remember the Tiger pub mate. Also saw a couple of real old people, just like me, Paul Whiting and Steve Sorsby. Anyone who wants to e-mail me, feel free. Once again, congratulations on a great site. See you all soon.

I was stationed at RAF Driffield in the '60s, Remember coming out of the railway station on a cold, wet, windy December night and wondering "where the **** have they sent me"!! But when I was posted away I left in tears. The best few years of my life, wonderful town, great people, I still look out for the "Tigers" result every week (things are looking up this season!). Used to drink mainly in the Red Lion, Buck, and Keys, as it was then, and must mention the hub of the social scene, The Zanzibar. Who can remember the "Honeycombs" live at Town Hall?
Maybe someday will manage back for a visit, if anybody out there remembers me, give me a call, unless I owe you money!
Thanks for the (happy) memories

hello driffield, it was good to see this website as living in scotland i dont get to go home to driff much these days and really miss it.

i was born in leeds but brought up in driffield from the age of 3 and finally left when i turned 18, returned home again at the age of 24 and still go home when i can, pity about the show day but then it was too much money if you ask me for not much else other that beer tents! good to see the carnival day is still on even thought the photos are from 2000 - what happened to the 2001 carnival then?

i'd like to say hello to my mum, my brother and old friends that i have lost contact with. nicola if you go online (BROUGH) HI THERE, dont know when i will be home next but thats what i like about driffield doesent change that much,

whoever wrote about the thursday market day i think i must have missed something when i was home - a few stalls on the market square not my idea of a thriving market but then again the saturday one is alot worse.
any way driffeld dont go changing will see you soon!

A great surprise to find Driffield on line, especially since our son was born there 42 years ago. Very intersting little site. I also have an Uncle by marriage whose people came from there, George Wharrie, he now lives in Hull. Will be checking the site regularly.

What a surprise! Great Driffield on the web. I was born in Driff and went to Driffield School from 1961-1966 and then on to Bridlington School. Barry Tipping, Michael Plaxton, Mary Clubley, susan Ford, Podge hornby, Jammy Richardson, Shazza Edgar, Delia Prince - good memories. Any addresses? Now in Leicester having spent time in Aberdeen, Nottingham and Hull.

I came ti Driffiel last year to find my grandmothers family. but the church was closed. Walking down the main street passed past the shops gave me a sence of belonging, and I could just see Gran as a young girl there.

Thanks again

Hi all

I am trying to find an old freind, Annaleisa Walker Marshall, she lived opposite the small school in Lockington until about 1992. She had a Citroen Cv in red and white, had jet black hair and normally wore red lipstick. The last i heard of her she had been living in Beverley near the big roundabout that shoots off to Driffield. Last known job was with Geest on the south side3 of the humber. Any info would be well appreciated.

Regards

Richard
