Situated
along the B1248 the Village of Dalton Holme is made up of two
Villages namely South Dalton and Holme-on-the-Wolds which over the
years have come to join together. The 18th Century Hall is the
home of Lord Hotham whos family have owned land in the area
for generations.
The beautiful spire on the 19th Century
Church is over 200 feet high and can be seen for miles around.
Inside the church lie a number of the Hotham family and there is a
fine black and white marble monument in memory of Sir John Hotham
(1698) which is said to have come from Italy. A knight in full
armour and helmet and gauntlet is stood beside him.
Dalton
Estate Office can be found in the village and all the Estate
houses are neat rows of cottages as well as Tudor type houses some
with date plates on them dating as far back as 1706.
Huge
trees stand in paddocks where livestock graze and the local public
house is the fine looking Pipe and Glass which is situated near to
gates leading into land that surrounds the Hall.
