The pretty
settlement of Southburn is made up of cottages and stately looking
properties all with a quaint country feel about them.
The
gardens well groomed and the properties are all well maintained,
most of which belong to the JSR
Farming Group who are now one of the largest family
owned farming companies in the country.
The Group was
founded in 1957 by the late John Sykes Rymer with the purchase of
176 hectares (440 acres) of chalky Wold farmland at Eastburn
Warren. With John Rymer's spiralling success and continuous
expansion throughout Yorkshire, 1970 saw the purchase of the 512
hectares (1,265 acre) Southburn Estate, now the headquarters and
administrative centre for the Group.
